At the Taipei launch the airline named further targets for 2026 — Bangkok, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, New Delhi and Mumbai — without dates. Until a route has a start date and a report that it is flying, treat it as a plan.
The airport's network page (read 12 October 2026) gives March 2026 for Seoul; a Mekong ASEAN report of 19 March 2026 gives April 2026. We have not confirmed either start.

The network as the airport lists it
The airport's page on direct flights, as read on 12 October 2026, lists domestic direct flights from Hai Phong, Thanh Hoa, Buon Ma Thuot, Vinh, Hue, Da Nang, Nha Trang, Da Lat, Can Tho, Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. It names Vietnam Airlines on routes from Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City and Vietjet Air with many daily domestic flights. Internationally it names Vietjet Air (including Thailand and Taipei), and Korean Air, Jeju Air and AirAsia as operating or planning direct flights, without route details for every airline.
Vietnam Airlines' airport guide, read in September 2026, gave flying times of about one hour from Ho Chi Minh City and 2 hours 5 minutes from Hanoi.

Traffic records that explain the crowds
The new routes have arrived during a period of strong demand. In the first 18 days of January 2026 the island had 734 international flights, up 40%, and a record 47 international arrivals on 17 January. On 14 February 2026 the airport handled 86 arriving flights, 50 of them international. For the 2 September 2026 holiday, around 570 flights and 84,800 passengers were expected, with 148 flights on the busiest day.
In the first nine months of 2026 Phu Quoc received 8,573,435 visitors, of whom 1,922,976 were international, according to provincial figures reported in September.

Flights and the visa exemption
A direct international flight is what makes the island's 30-day visa exemption work. The airport and Vietnam Airlines describe an airside transit through Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City as also qualifying, but clearing immigration there does not. A new direct route from your city can therefore change whether you need a visa for an island-only trip. The details are on our visa exemption page.
When a new route is a poor bet
New routes are the most likely to change. Launch timetables are often adjusted in the first months, introductory fares apply to limited dates, and a route flown a few times a week leaves you with few alternatives if one flight is cancelled. Booking a new route on a separate ticket to connect with a long-haul flight is the riskiest case: a missed connection is yours to solve. If your dates are fixed, a route that has run for a full season, or a connection on a single ticket, is the safer choice.
What to check before you go
- The airline's own timetable for your date, not the launch announcement.
- Whether the flight is direct to Phu Quoc or connects in Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City, if you rely on the island visa exemption.
- The baggage rules of the airline flying the route, especially on new routes run with different aircraft.
- How the airline will rebook you if a low-frequency flight is cancelled.
- The airport works page if you travel in 2027.
