What changed on Phu Quoc, with the date and the source

Good Morning Phu Quoc logs the changes that alter a trip to the island: entry rules, flights, the airport works, ferries, boat-safety rules and notices on the island. Each item carries the date it was announced or took effect, who it affects, and the source we read.

Latest changes

The most recent changes in our log, newest first. The full list, back to early 2025, is on the What's changed page.

  • 15 October 2026 — a scheduled Moscow–Phu Quoc route is due to start, two flights a week, according to a VOV report of 23 August. Flights and routes.
  • 2 October 2026 — national press confirms the APEC 2027 Leaders' Week is expected in the Phu Quoc special zone; no dates have been published. Airport and APEC 2027.
  • 1 October 2026 — the airport's new terminal is reported at about 95% of its concrete structure, with a technical flight planned for 30 December 2026 and operation from April 2027. Read the airport update.
  • 7 August 2026 — An Thoi port, where boats leave for the An Thoi islands, has a new operating company after an auction. Ferries and mainland links.
  • 25 July 2026 — daily Hai Phong–Phu Quoc flights and a daily Phu Quoc–Singapore service were scheduled to start; we have not seen reports of the first flights. Flights and routes.
  • 14 July 2026 — after the 11 July canoe accident off An Thoi, the special zone tightens rules on boats carrying visitors. We could not confirm that island canoe tours have restarted. Boat safety rules.
  • 1 April 2026 — the special zone's chairman says the night market will not be scrapped and a new site is being studied; the old lease on Bach Dang street has ended. Night market site.

Two older changes still catch people out. Phu Quoc has been a special zone of An Giang province since 1 July 2025, so many bookings and maps still show the old name, Kien Giang. And the island's 30-day visa exemption covers the island only; a trip that continues to the mainland needs a visa.

How to read a date on this site

Every update page carries three kinds of date, and they mean different things.

  • The line above the headline ("Update · 14 July 2026") is the date the change was announced or took effect, not the date we wrote the page.
  • The "checked" line under a section is the date its sources were last read; a timetable checked on 12 October records what the operator showed that day.
  • The byline date is the last revision of the whole page.

"Announced" means reported before it happened and not yet seen in operation. When sources disagree, we print both. Fares and timetables are the operator's figures on the date shown, for reference only.

Where the information comes from

We start from the primary text wherever one exists: resolutions, ministry and provincial portals, the airport operator's pages and the published timetables of ferry and airline companies. Where a decision is only reported, we use national newspapers such as Tuoi Tre, VietnamPlus, Dai bieu Nhan dan, Viet Nam News and Tien Phong, and name the paper and its date next to the fact. Travel blogs and booking sites are never our source for a number; facts we could not confirm are listed openly on the page concerned.

Questions we are still following

As of 12 October 2026 we are waiting for official word on these points; each will be logged with its date when it appears:

  • whether tourist canoe trips to the An Thoi islands have formally restarted, and under what new conditions;
  • where the Duong Dong night market will move, and when;
  • the dates of the APEC 2027 Leaders' Week, and any traffic or access rules that come with it;
  • whether the second runway at the airport has been completed, against a target of 3 September 2026;
  • whether the 30-day visa exemption has been restated in a text that uses the island's new status as a special zone.

What this site is not for

Good Morning Phu Quoc is a log of changes. It does not sell tours, flights or ferry tickets, take bookings, or keep an events calendar, a food guide or a list of travel companies. For today's departures, the ferry or airline company is the source on the day; for a decision on your own visa, ask the immigration authority or the embassy. If something here is out of date, see the corrections policy and the contact page.

Common questions

Questions readers send

How often is Good Morning Phu Quoc updated?

We add an item when an official text, an operator or a national newspaper publishes a change that affects visitors. There is no fixed schedule; each page shows the date it was last revised and the date each section's sources were last checked.

Can I book a ferry or a tour through this site?

No. The site does not sell tickets or tours and does not take bookings. The ferry and flight pages name the operators and show what their own pages listed on the date checked, so you can book with them directly.

Why do some items say a change was announced but not confirmed?

New flights, building deadlines and rule changes are often announced weeks or months ahead. Until we find a report that the change actually happened, we label it as announced and keep the source date next to it.
